In a special presentation at Buffalo General Hospital, Kaleida Health will announce major support for the American Heart Association and its Go Red For Women campaign in Western New York.  Totaling nearly $20,000, the financial support includes their corporate sponsorship of the annual Go Red for Women luncheon and an additional $4000 raised by Kaleida employees for Wear Red Day.

The Wear Red Day fundraising efforts were headed up by Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Margaret Paroski.  Under her leadership, each Kaleida facility designated a Wear Red coordinator to sell pins and raise money for the American Heart Association. “Women need to be aware that heart disease is their number one killer,” she says.  “We have the chance to change that through awareness and strategies to modify risk factors."

The media is cordially invited to attend this special presentation:

For his part, Congressman Lee introduced a resolution supporting the goals and ideals of American Heart Month in the House of Representatives. The resolution passed unanimously on February 23rd. Lee also joined Western New Yorkers in observing National Wear Red Day.

The congressman’s resolution states that “heart disease continues to be the leading cause of death in the United States,” noting that more than 612,000 Americans will die this year as a result of heart attack or stroke. Every year since 1964, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation designating the month of February as ‘‘American Heart Month.” (Click HERE to read the text of Congressman Lee’s American Heart Month resolution.)

In addition, Congressman Lee considers Kaleida Health’s support to the American Heart Association a critical step for the health of our community and the well-being of our local economy.

“Heart disease and stroke affect more people in Western New York than anywhere else,” said Congressman Lee. “I am pleased that the House of Representatives recently passed my resolution to honor American Heart Month with the hope that it will help draw increased awareness to these killers. I hope Western New Yorkers will take this opportunity to educate themselves on the warning signs for these diseases and promote healthy living among friends and family.”
