Eighth Annual Jog for the Jake 5K on Father’s Day in Delaware Park -
Fun for the Whole Family!

The eighth annual Jog for the Jake 5K, Kids’ Dash and Family Fun Day will take place on Father’s Day, June 21st, in Delaware Park and on the Nichols School Campus.  The event is a Buffalo Father’s Day tradition and benefits neurological research at the Jacobs Neurological Institute, the Department of Neurology of the University at Buffalo and Kaleida Health.  In addition to the 5k run around Delaware Park’s ring road, the event features several activities for children including: a kids’ dash (with T-shirts and chocolate medals), bounce houses, a children’s art activity, a climbing wall, music and an incredible post race lunch.  It is a great way to celebrate family and support the fight against neurological disease!

The Jog for the Jake was started by friends and family of Lawrence D. Jacobs, M.D., a caring father, professor and physician world-renowned for his advances in research and treatment of multiple sclerosis.  He was also an avid jogger who enjoyed running around Delaware Park.  Dr. Jacobs passed away suddenly in November 2001 and the race was established to honor him and his dedication to research and helping people affected by neurological disease.  More than $700,000 has been raised over the past seven years and over 2,000 people participated in the event last year.  

All proceeds from the race stay in Buffalo and help support the Jacobs Neurological Institute’s (JNI) research initiatives and patient care programs.  Neurological conditions researched and treated at the JNI include: multiple sclerosis (MS), epilepsy, stroke, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

The cost of registration is $5 for the kids’ dash.  The cost for the 5K Jog is $20 before June 12th or $25 after June 12^th.

7:30 am – Day of race registration begins

8:30 am – Warm-Up for Kids’ Dash

8:45 am – Kids’ Dash – activities for children available after the Kids’ Dash

9:30 am – 5K Jog begins

10:45 am – Awards Ceremony – Nichols School Campus
